Support Staff

Carey Cecil, Student Ministries Secretary Carey is the part-time secretary for Student Ministries. She was born in RAF Lakenheath, England while her family was stationed there. Her father remained in the Air Force until 1994. She has attended Southern Gables ever since she and her family moved to Denver in January of 1996. Carey recently graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in English writing. She can often be found enjoying a good book, writing, or playing the piano. Carey loves serving the Lord and His people and is currently involved with the 180 high school ministry on Wednesday nights.
Joyce Goddard, Outreach & Worship Secretary Joyce is the secretary for Outreach and Worship ministries. She is originally from Pennsylvania with a stop in Miami, Florida before coming to Colorado in 1983. Joyce is the mother of two children, Michael and Katherine. Her formal education is in medicine but the Lord led her to Southern Gables Church. Joyce enjoys spending time with her children and friends, reading and driving from one ballet studio to the next jazz studio.
Julia Grauberger, Administrative Assistant Julia is the Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor and manages the office at Southern Gables. Julia is a Colorado native. She was born in Durango where her father was the county sheriff. Her family relocated to Denver when she was very young. Her family came to a relationship with the Lord through the Billy Graham crusade held in Denver in 1965. Julia's educational experience includes a degree in psychology from Greenville College. She has worked in ministry for 20 years, serving on staff at a church and then working at CBInternational before coming in May 2004 to serve at Southern Gables. Her husband, Lee, and their two sons enjoy activities in the mountains and going to Bronco games.
Christy Irving, Receptionist/Children's Ministry Secretary Christy is the receptionist and the secretary for women's ministries. She was born and raised in Colorado. She spent a semester in Sydney Australia and has had the travel bug ever since. She graduated from CSU in Fort Collins with a degree in English and a focus in history. Her family has attended Southern Gables Church since 1981.
Tony Lang, Facilities Manager Tony Lang was born in Marietta, Georgia. He saw a good portion of the U.S. and Europe while growing up as an Air Force dependant. Tony graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Denver, attended Metropolitan State College for two semesters with the intent to study music and journalism. Later he joined a rock band and toured the U.S. for three years. After another attempt at college and computer sciences, he married, left school and found employment with the cable TV industry for 14.5 years. Through all this the Lord graciously led him to Southern Gables and a new position as Facilities Manager. Tony and his wife Bonnie have been at Southern Gables for 11 years and have four children; Michael, Jeremy, Paul and Sarah.
Elsie Peterson, Contributions Secretary Elsie works part-time in the accounts receivable department of Southern Gables, maintaining all contribution records and providing the end of the year giving statements. She is a native of Colorado, the mother of an adult daughter and son (Dr. Rich Peterson, our Adult Discipleship Pastor), and grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter. She loves making scrapbooks, baking cakes and reading. She's a 'soccer Grandma' and serves as treasurer on the Southwest Denver Soccer board
Ruth Ross, Women’s Ministry & Congregational Care Secretary Ruth works part-time as secretary for Women’s Ministry/Congregational Care. She hails originally from Iowa but has lived in Denver most of her life. Ruth took an early retirement from US West and was the office manager at Rocky Mountain Baptist Conference for the past 10 years. She and Gene have called Southern Gables Church their home church since 2004. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. Ruth enjoys sewing of all kinds, crafts and gardening.
Phyllis Sittner, Publications & Adult Ministries Secretary Phyllis Sittner is the secretary for Adult Discipleship Ministries (which includes Men's Ministries, Small Groups and Adult Communities) and publishes the church bulletin. She was born in Texas, has lived in California and Nevada, but has lived in Denver long enough to qualify as a "semi-native". She and her husband, Jim, have five children: Matt, Steve, Mike, Becky and David. She graduated from Colorado Women's College, where she majored in Music and French. She plays the piano and violin and her hobbies are quilting, crocheting and counted cross stitching.
Marv Waanders, Church Accountant The Church Accountant is responsible for the accounting of how church funds are spent and the payroll. Marv was born, raised, and educated in the midwest. He and his wife Alice moved to Denver in 1976. They were blessed with three sons, three beautiful daughters-in-law, and seven wonderful grandchildren. They all love and serve the Lord.
